EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMES

Boarding School Scholarship Programme

We believe rural talent deserves world-class opportunities. Since 2010, our STEM Boarding School Scholarship Programme has identified high-potential learners from under-resourced communities in KZN and placed them in some of KwaZulu-Natal’s prestigious boarding schools.

This programme goes beyond financial support. It provides a holistic ecosystem of mentoring, academic guidance, psychosocial support, and career guidance—ensuring each learner not only thrives academically but also builds confidence, leadership skills, and a sense of community responsibility.

Our Impact So Far:

  • Over 100 talented rural learners placed in leading boarding schools since 2010.

  • 100% university enrolment rate, with the majority entering STEM and other critical fields.

  • 95% graduate as engineers, accountants, doctors, IT professionals, academics, and educators.

  • Many alumni return as mentors or invest back into the programme, multiplying its impact.

Blended Learning Afterschool Programmes

The Blended Learning Afterschool Programme (BLAP) is Imbeleko Foundation’s flagship initiative for bridging the digital divide and transforming STEM education for rural learners. By combining in-person facilitation with online learning platforms, BLAP provides high-quality afterschool education in Maths, Science, English, and technology-aligned subjects to learners from Grades 4 to 12.

Delivered directly in schools after hours, the programme ensures rural learners have access to the same resources, teaching quality, and mentorship that their urban counterparts enjoy. Learners receive personalised support from trained facilitators, and benefit from an ecosystem designed to nurture their academic confidence, career readiness, and leadership potential.

  • 1000+ learners supported annually across schools in KwaZulu-Natal.

  • Delivered in partnership with the National Department of Basic Education, rural directorate, already replicated in 16 public schools.

  • 73% of Grade 9 learners in BLAP choose Pure Mathematics — more than double the rural average.

  • 2024 Matric Results: 100% pass rate with 90% Bachelor passes.

  • 98% of alumni gain entry into STEM-related university pathways.

Hybrid Independant School

South Africa’s education system is among the most unequal in the world. Learners in rural schools often fall far behind, especially in STEM, with little chance to catch up to peers from well-resourced schools.

Imbeleko Academy, a Hybrid registered independent school. Our inaugural class, drawn from rural schools in the Valley of 1000 Hills, is already proving that with the right support, rural learners don’t just catch up — they excel.

100% Retention: Every learner who started in our inaugural class has remained in the programme — a rare feat in rural education.

Academic Excellence: Despite entering with one of the widest inequality gaps in education, learners are now consistently achieving A and B averages.
